What is Coaching + How does it differ from Counselling or Psychology?

A really swish definition states this: “Coaching is the practice of supporting, challenging and empowering an individual or group/team through the process of achieving a specific personal or professional result via cutting edge strategies and change techniques.”  When I describe it I say  “Life Coaching, Success Coaching, whatever you want to call it is a relationship that begins totally here and now and focuses all our sessions on where you wanna be, who you wanna be and what design you want to make for your life 6mths, 1yr, 5 yrs down the road.  Together, we draw a line in the sand from today, and get to play with what your ideal future will be like (DREAMS) and then plan for it, act it and get it (REALITY) ! “

A really swish definition of Counseling and Psychology states: “Professions are trained to deal with specific issues of pathology, healing and unresolved psychological issues of the past”

whereas coaching is more future-oriented and encourages the client to explore and create options and possibilities to improve their lives going forward.

I have an acting teacher/singing teacher/dance teacher/husband/mum…why do I need a coach?

Let’s talk straight.  I am a sweet girl and I completely nurture my students BUT You also want me to completely honest and kick your a*s into gear, right!

Let’s face it, your mum and teacher + hubbie ‘BUY INTO’ the limits you already have of yourself.  My gig is to jam with you to shake up those stories you tell yourself and create some rockin’ ones that move you to take action.  If you were happy already with where you were at, you wouldn’t be looking for a coach.  You’re here because you want a change, I know it, I know you feel it and I know you’re ready.  So I get the joy of holding your hand, plotting out the journey and walking (sometimes running) along side you to see that you get there.  Yell, scream, beg me to go away, but I’m here for your success baby!  I get a nerdy kick out of serving others.

Why do I need a month worth of sessions?  Isn’t one enough?

It would be a disservice to you if I met you once chatted for 40min and let you go.  Would you reeeeeaaaalllllly know where to go? How to do it?  You might know a little but the shift probably wont happen that you really, really want.

“A little knowledge is dangerous” as the old saying goes.  You’re ready for a change and we need to build that momentum, get you peddling with training wheels, take them off and I can clap you on!

A month is a great time to make that commitment to yourself to change and then get on with it. I want you to leave me with the tools to manage yourself and “power on”.  That’s where the real gold is!
